Russia and Croatia meet on Saturday for a place in the World Cup semi-finals.

The hosts have been impressed all tournament, convincing wins over Saudi Arabia and Egypt was improved upon by a penalty shootout victory over Spain. Now the lowest-ranked nation at the finals are three wins from glory.

Croatia are aiming to match their best-ever showing at a finals when they made the semi-finals in 1994 in their first World Cup since gaining independence. Since then, it has been three group stage exits.

The two nations have met three times previously, with Russia never victorious.

They met twice during qualification for Euro 2008, both games ended as a draw, while their most recent clash saw Croatia saw three times in the final half an hour to run out 3-1 wins in a 2015 friendly.

Team news
Russia have no suspended players, but left winger Yuri Zhirkov is expected to miss out with a damaged tendon.

Aleksandr Samedov trained alone as the squad were put through their paces on Tuesday. After a brief team discussion with coach Stanislav Cherchesov, the winger underwent fitness tests and worked through an individual training programme.

Croatia have no suspended players or current fitness issues.
